About me

I started working in the coffee industry in 2004 in a little coffee shop near Munich, Germany where I learned my espresso basics.
I went on studying administrative hotel management to advance into a career path in the hospitality industry and in high quality businesses. After graduating among the top of my class I went on studying International Hospitality Management at the IUBH, which was just ranked best private university of applied sciences in Germany.
My path went on in small privately owned businesses in Munich where I had Operations Management positions as well as working as a barista and bartender.
The famous Cafe Luitpold which combines traditional pastry with modern, creative kitchen and bar was my last step in Germany so far where I occupied the position of Operations Manager and Assistant General Manager.
One of my mayor responsibilities was quality management in the food and drink production where I trained many baristas and bartenders.
During my time at Cafe Luitpold I also designed an Excel based F&B calculation system that helped us decrease food costs significantly.
In 2013 my passion for coffee brought me to Vancouver, Canada's coffee capital where I soon took over management of Bean Around the World's flagship coffee shop in the traditional and industrial district Gastown. Bean Around the World was found in 1990 and is one of the traditional specialty coffee roasters currently operating 27 locations in the greater Vancouver Area.
They also taught me how to properly roast coffee on a Probat from the 50s.
During my time in north america I also visited coffee plantations on Oahu, HI and the SCAA convention in Seattle to advance my knowledge and my skills.
And the traveling now continues to Innsbruck, Austria. Austria was the bridge for coffee to access the european market and culture and still the Austrian coffee culture is considered one of the most sophisticated in the world.
I'm excited to learn see new shops, to try different approaches and to learn something new.

Cheers!

Paul
